Civilisation versus Nature

A deadly curse befalls young prince Ashitaka when he kills a deamonised boar while saving his village. To seek healing he has to travel far to the west into the former lands of the boar to find its origin and the reason why he became a demon. There he stumbles into a war between the workers of the iron hut, demolishing the closeby forest in order to mine more and the forest spirits defending their home.

He meets the girl San, the deamon princess raised by wolfes and fighting for the forest, agains her own kind, the humans. On the other side stands lady Eboshi, ever stoking the fires and longing for the head of the forest god which shall grant immortality.

Ashitaka decides to negotiate between the two lines but only gets wounded again during the fights.

Can the two parties ever coexist and will Ashitaka be able to release the curse which weakens him every day?

Beautifully constructed and painstakingly written, this is about as close to a perfect animated epic as you're likely to get. (Seattle Times)
